Many of us have vivid memories dating when we were younger. In most cases, the agreement to go out is followed by the excitement and anticipation of the date. The next step may involve the pleasure of doing something you like with someone whose company you enjoy, and then maybe plans to do it again. Dating can also be stressful. Some of us have concerns about how someone who does not know us well will perceive us, or have worries about a negative evaluation. It can also be awkward to explain yourself to someone who does not know you. Dating raises many emotions. Although many of us who have been or are currently in long-standing relationships believe dating is something that we will not have to address ever again, for many of us that is not the case. A growing number of Americans are unmarried. According to a recent AARP report, 45% of adults ages 65 and over are single (AARP, 2014). In this presentation, Dr. Thomas-Cottingham will discuss the benefits of dating, along with a review of the many forms dating takes in 2019. She will also provide tips on dating etiquette and dating safety.
